It’s always tricky when designing gates for Grade 2 listed properties, especially when done over the phone and through emails. I must say it’s made easier with customers that have an understanding for what they want to achieve and yet have a sympathetic view of their own home environment. Every detail from hinges, inverted jowls and vaulted brace designs can make all the difference.

In this installation one main factor was allowing the chosen timber (Iroko) to mellow down to a beautiful silver grey. Letting the new gates blend and harmonise into their surroundings. With some installations the gates are the super stars on arriving at the property. Greeting you like some VIP at a night club. Not in this case! The gates needed to add a gentle flavour of a classic historic property. Working sympathetically with its final resting place.
